Arabic Standards program for non-native speakers (Siraj)

By webadmin, 9 March, 2026

This project aims to establish standards and methodological foundations for teaching Arabic to non-native speakers in Islamic schools in Singapore. To develop high-quality, systematic standards for teaching Arabic that can be adopted globally, an expert team at the Queen Rania Teacher Academy has developed a scientific and educational vision and methodology to achieve this goal. This methodology is based on studying and analyzing the context of teaching and learning Arabic language in Singapore, where Arabic is taught as a foreign language. The purpose is to monitor and analyze this context, identifying key challenges and gaps that hinder the development of Arabic language education in foreign language learning context. The project was implemented in several phases to accomplish this objective.

The QRTA team prepared the "Standards for Teaching Arabic to Non-Native Speakers." This framework is grounded in global standards for foreign language education and specific standards for teaching Arabic. The QRTA team will also lead the development of Arabic curricula for various grade levels based on the standards they have developed. Furthermore, QRTA is building the capacity of the Arabic head of departments, coordinators, and teachers at the Islamic schools in Singapore on the framework and how it can be implemented to develop the curriculum, assessment methods, and teach based on standards. Additionally, the schools will pilot the Arabic curricula they have designed, based on the standards, in Arabic language classrooms in Singapore.
